Richard   Maniscalco Rappahannock Academy VA 22538 USA Fellow OCS classmate Who Still Mourns Your Loss Bob Byrnes: you continue to live in my heart and the best part of my memory. The years have not diminished the pain of your loss. It will be with me always. I see your face hear your laugh and smile I hear the sound of your voice. Nary has a day gone by when I don’t think of you. I thank God for the short time we had together and the good times we shared at Fort Sill. I look back through all the years past and sometimes believe that Vietnam was just a bad dream. It was so long ago that it seems as though it all never really happened. I know better. I can’t call you on the phone or shake your hand. I can’t visit you during this holiday season. I can’t share pictures of grandchildren with you or laugh with you about old times. This is the reality. You spilled your lifeblood upon the field of battle while engaged in a noble cause. You were a brave and gallant , the type from which its greatness. It was an honor to have served with you. Sleep your rest eternal confident in the knowledge that we who knew and loved you will never forget. Mar 25, 2008 |

Bill   Fishburne OCS classmate Asheville,NC 28803 USA Lt Bob Byrnes Our Best, Our Brother
Bob was smart, strong and hard-working, but we remembered him most for his wit and ready smile. Bob never backed down. He was the first to volunteer, the hardest working member of any team, and he won the admiration of all his classmates. Surely God wanted this bright soul to return to Him sooner than we were ready to let him go. He was our classmate, our inspiration, our brother and our friend. Dear Lord, we miss Lt. Bob Byrnes so.

Susie Moore-  Bell classmate Carmichael CA 95608 lost years Bob was in my graduating class at La Sierra High School in Carmichael, California. I was saddened to learn he had been killed in Vietnam from a former classmate in 1968. He was a very handsome athletic guy. His birthday was only two weeks different from mine and I'm reflecting this evening just before Easter Sunday and the chruch we all went to for Easter services for Sunday Mass on how sad it is that he never got to experience all the wonderful things that life has brought me. Hope other classmates that knew him better will add to this remembrance. Susan Moore Bell class of 1963 L.S.H.S. Mar 22, 2008 |

To the family and friends of 1ST LT Robert Scott Byrnes , I am one of the luck ones. My brother came home. He served with 1ST LT. Byrnes and was wounded in the same fight where 1ST LT. Byrnes lost his life. I am going to Washington DC next week and I am going to place a flower for 1ST LT. Byrnes in honor of my brother, My brother said 1ST LT. Byrnes was a "good soldier and a outstanding Officer and a fine man ".

He was a fine officer, and a finer man, and he was taken far too soon. I pray that his family, though I never knew them, understand how much he was respected. He Cared about his men, and demanded that we, as leaders do so as well. What better teaching can one receive? Thanks, Lt Byrnes, for all you did for those of us under your command. Rest in Peace.
