Bill  Cloughly Arty FO D, Co. 2/12 and Friend Gloucester VA 23061 Lt Bob Byrnes was an excellent officer, gentleman, and above it all a "Christian". 1.st LT. Robert S. Byrnes ( Bob ),the Lord took you home in 1968 40 years ago. You and I were just becoming friends, I called you the "White Knight" because you ran so fast no one could catch you. I think of you often and remember your smile and laugh your leadership, kindness. Until I went to the National Archives I didn't know your real name I thought of you as Bob Burns from Carmicheal Ca and it has always bothered me. I HAD TROUBLE HOLDING BACK THE TEARS to your family and friends: Almighty God, through the death of your Son on the cross, you have overcome death for us. Through his burial and resurrection from the dead you have made the grave a holy place and restored us to eternal life. We pray for those who died believing in Jesus and are buried with him in the hope of rising again. God of the living and the dead, may those who faithfully believed in you on earth praise you for ever in the joy of heaven. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen Rest in peace my friend. Bob you are not forgotten!

Jim   Doyle lieutenant Bob Byrnes Everest Ks 66424 USA It looks like you graduated about the same year I started High School. What a coincidence to discover Today I was going through a lot of "stuff" that has been stored for many years. Amongst the Viet Nam era "stuff" was your obit from the February 1968, 40 years later! I guess I cut the article out but the article never came to my attention until yesterday. Anway, I just wanted to dedicate a few moments to your memory from one who knew you as the fine man and a great officer and dedicated patriot that you were! . God Bless you Bob and your family too! It was an honor and priveledge to serve beside you.

Eugene   Ogozalek Scranton, PA 18510 Bob Byrnes Not Forgotten
We served in Viet Nam in different locations and different services but during the exact time frame, me in the marines and you in the army. I survived my wounds sustained a few days after your death occurred. I am able to tell my children about great men like you. I know that they will speak proudly of your sacrifice to all that follow.

Christopher P.   Marshall Remembrance for Lt Robert Scott Byrnes of Carmichael Ca Having learned that Robert died at such a young age shocked me. I can't picture myself dying in 5 years. Right now I am 17 years old and I would like to think that I have a long and successful life ahead of me. Another fact that is saddening is that Robert died while in war. He never had the chance to have a family. Though I didn't know Robert personally, I feel that I have grown close to his spirit. I am proud that he fought for my country and my people. Christopher P.
